Sawara Festival

It was definitely worth going to Sawara!

Teruko and I went to 'Sawara Festival' in Sawara, Chiba. I have been desperate to go to Sawara since I saw this town on TV by accident. I cannot believe how soon we could come to this town... while there's a big festival going on!

What a lovely weather we had today! Direct bus service from Tokyo Station to Sawara really helped our trip. We were pleased that we had an easy trip up here by bus as soon as we saw the town and the railway station packed with tons of people.

Because yesterday was the festival's peak, we were expecting a relatively quiet day. How wrong were we? They had tons of floats going all around the town. It must be physically tough for those who are working on those floats. In the meantime, Teruko and I were munching away some chicken barbecue, Frankfurt, etc... :-)

Finally! We got to see the good old part of Sawara! This is amazing! It's great to see people are maintaining this good old town with Edo Era looks and feels. I just couldn't stop taking photos! :-)

Maybe because Sawara is surrounded by water, there were several Sake brewery in this town. And the good thing was that, because we have this festival going on, they were serving free sake! Yay! As Wotadiamondgeezer is keen on fine Sake these days, I grabbed a few free Sake. They are soooooo tasty! I ended up buying a few bottles as souvenir for myself...

Although we were in Sawara for only five hours, it was a really enjoyable short trip packed with events. I highly recommend Sawara! Both of us were asleep pretty much throughout the whole bus ride back to Tokyo. :-)

I was pleased to see some tourists from foreign countries in Sawara. I really want them to see beautiful and traditional parts of Japan like this.

I was also really pleased to see so many young people taking part in this festival. I am envious of these guys taking part in such events as 'locals'. It's all about 'demolish old stuff, build more and more new stuff' in Japan these days. We really need to maintain good old Japanese stuff including culture, buildings, and so on.
