土浦全国花火競技大会 - Tsuchiura All Japan Fireworks Competition

It's been a while since the last time I saw fireworks in Japan!

I went to see Tsuchiura All Japan Fireworks Competition with Teruko after finding it in newspaper leaflet from Yomiuri Travel Service. Hundreds of thousands of people come to see this festival from all around Japan, and it was no surprise that this tour was a sell-out with a month to go before the event. According to our tour guide who looked like a graduate, they even organised twenty four buses for the tour from Kasukabe. I didn't know people from Kasukabe are such fireworks fanatics, although I was born in Kasukabe!

It's been well over ten years since last time I saw fireworks in Japan. So I got on a bus to Tsuchiura with lots of excitement. Because our bus arrived before 3PM, we ended up waiting for the fireworks to start for almost three hours!

As the name suggests, lots of fireworks artists came from all around Japan. Because of the fact that it's a competition, there was quite a bit of time between fireworks. Having said that, the fireworks we saw midway through the event were all emphatic and powerful. The last 30 minutes was a bit of disappointment. We wished that we had seen those amazing fireworks that we saw midway through at the end of the night. At least we were able to see a variety of fireworks including creative and big fireworks. We also learned where to sit next time we come to this event!

We saw an alarming number of people who lacked a bit of respect to other people. There were a lot of people who stood right in front of everyone and blocked their view. They tested my nerve for too long so that I ended up shouting at some of them... Oups! :-P
